MY COLLECTION
ABOUT ME

I was born and grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I enjoyed art since I was a young girl and was always crafting in my spare time. My first exposure to pottery was a mini course during my sophomore year of high school. We went to the Plover River and dug up our own clay and prepared it for our pieces which I still have today. Although I loved art, I didn't think I could make a decent living as an artist so I pursued Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Madison since I was pretty good at math. After school I went to work at the Trane Company in LaCrosse, Wisconsin where I met my future husband Dan Wichman, an Engineer from Ohio. After I was laid off from Trane, Dan and I lived and worked in several places before settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota where we eventually married. I worked at Onan/Cummins for thirty years as a Design Engineer, mostly in the RV generator design group. I retired in December of 2015 and attended pottery courses at several places in the Cities. Soon after, Dan set up a pottery studio for me in our lower level where I continued to pursue this passion. In 2021 we moved to Mequon, north of Milwaukee Wisconsin, to be close to our grandkids. Dan built me another pottery studio and I bought my first kiln. I joined the Cedarburg Artist Guild and entered two pieces into their 2022 Juried Exhibition where I received an Honorable Mention in the 3D category for my Tybee Beach vase.

MY INSPIRATION
Dan and I were blessed with three beautiful daughters; first Katie and three years later identical twins Sarah and Laura. My daughters brought much joy and fulfillment to my life. Katie pursued pottery in high school and was quite a talented potter; and later, Laura and Sarah also took courses in pottery. I proudly displayed their pieces as I remembered the joy pottery brought to me as a girl. Katie received her PhD in Aerospace Engineering in the Spring of 2018 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is now a Finite Element Analysis Engineer at Komatsu Mining in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In May 2018 my first grandson; Caleb, was born to Katie and her husband Daniel. In May 2020 my first granddaughter; Nora was born followed by my youngest grandson; Owen, in October 2024. Sarah received her PhD in Structural Engineering in August 2023 at the University of Washington in Seattle and is working at a Structural Engineering firm in Seattle. Laura received her doctorate in Physical Therapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in the Spring of 2018 and is working at Mayo Clinic St. Mary's Hospital. Laura has two adorable Australian Shepherds; Cooper and Arlo.
I named my pottery "3 daughters klay" (3dk) after my daughters who continue to inspire me with their hard work, compassion, laughter and most importantly love.
